PROFESSIONAL SUMMARY
, Teamwork Skills
I am very comfortable working as part of a team and dealing with members of the public. This is evidenced through the retail work that I have done and my volunteering role with the Animal Welfare Sanctuary. In both of these roles, I was required to interact with members of the public who were customers of the shop or individuals interested in rehoming an animal. I enjoy working as part of a team and feel that I am a reliable team player. When working in Spar (Summer job 2018 - 2020), my tasks involved serving customers, stocking shelves, checking dates of products, and managing the staff rota, including scheduling breaks. If the shop was busy with customers, the manager might have called me to move from stacking shelves to serving customers - I was always comfortable to switch according to where I was needed most. During Transition year (2017 - 2018), I did work placements in a law firm, in a Montesorri, and at a dog kennel. In each of these roles, I worked as part of a team. In the law firm, I supported one of the busy legal secretaries with her administrative tasks and enjoyed helping her achieve her duties. I also had the opportunity to visit Limerick Courthouse and to observe a case and the process involved. In the Montessori, I worked with a teacher and childcare assistant and helped them with tasks that included supervising the children during arts and crafts time, reading to the children, and cleaning up at the end of each day. This was an enjoyable placement that allowed me to lean on my creative skills, and I also learned that I am a patient individual. When working at the dog kennels, the routine was essential, and my day involved checking in new dogs, walking the dogs already boarding at the kennels, and helping the groomers with the washing process. In this role, I was meeting with different members of the public, and for them to trust me with their pets, I had to quickly build a good rapport. Throughout school, I played basketball with St. Colm's. To play successfully as part of the team, I observed what the other players were doing to ensure there were no blind spots and cover any open positions. The team competed at provincial tournaments and the All-Ireland Basketball Championships. My takeaways from playing include the importance of working as a unit, the camaraderie, and discipline. When playing with the U18s, I was awarded the Most Valuable Player trophy for best team spirit. My coach highlighted how I was good at keeping the team going when morale was low and how sometimes the most valuable player is not the top person on the court but the person who best reflects the club's values.
Communication Skills
Early in semester one at UL, I was elected to be one of two class representatives for my Law Plus class. This role involves listening to concerns that my classmates may have and raising them with the Course Director, the Teacher Assistants, or the relevant lecturer. As part of this job, I attend class representative forums and then relay the information to my classmates through an organized conference call that I put together with my fellow class representative.
