08.2023 - Current
  • English teacher for both the Junior and Senior Cycle curriculum in 2023. 6th Year HL English with mixed student ability. 5th Year OL English with weak ability. Both exam ability levels catered through note-taking methods, sample essays, and class discussions.
  • 2024-2025 - EAL and Resource teacher. EAL required the assessment of new students in the school to monitor their English ability and learning. The assessment through the NCCA EAL testing was carried out to assess students' levels' of Speaking, Writing, Listening, and Reading. One-to-one student withdrawals would occur for students to gain extra tuition to improve their English and help with class/ homework.
  • First-year Irish and English teacher. First Years engaged in topics such as poetry, basic grammar, descriptive writing, and what is required as part of the JCT.
  • Attended professional development workshops, and stayed updated on EAL teaching techniques.

Teacher - English/ Geography/ History

Scoil Chriost Ri

08.2021 - 06.2022
  • Utilized good time management and strategic planning to ensure teaching and marking deadlines were met.
  • Optimized student engagement with literary and non-literary concepts through innovative teaching methods.
  • Engaged with students through conversational language, simplifying curriculum into relevant, understandable information.
  • I have gained experience through the Learning Support classes that I was enrolled in to teach and provide for students. This subject allowed me to help students understand topics better and to help improve writing answers to questions. In terms of Level 2 students, I learned about what resources could be used for them and how to have them engage in their work.
  • I had 6th and 5th Years HL English classes for a brief term before their previous teacher returned for the year. I learned through team teaching for a short term how to have students analyse and answer poetry sections, understand the comparative question, and the single text question, and produce good pieces of creative writing. Team teaching was a benefit as I learned and gained more knowledge from my colleague.
  • I had 5th Year of LCA Social Education. I learned about the curriculum and also the key assignments that students had to submit as part of this program. I also had 3rd Year History and I again learned about the curriculum and the layout of the new common-level papers. With this class, I found I had to change my teaching style in order to help them understand the materials and information they were being taught.

Teacher - English

  • Other subjects I was scheduled for were First Years Learning to Learn and PE. With PE, I learned about the safety of students and also what sports you could do with students when most were limited by the virus. I learned how to adapt also and change lessons quickly if the weather didn't suit me. When I had shy students, I would partake in the activities myself to show that anyone can participate.
  • Due to the pandemic, I increased my technology skills through the use of Teams and its features. I learned about what technology methods were a good prior knowledge facility for students and also learned how to motivate students and keep things fun with Kahoot, Padlet, and YouTube.
