Parish Assembly
I was a member of the Parish Assembly for over 6 years, having the role of Assistant Chair & Assistant Secretary and attended meetings on a monthly basis. Through this I got involved in various projects/roles over the years.
I was co-coordinator with Fr.Hayes and 2 others for the 'Do This In Memory' team which involved preparation for masses for Holy Communion children in their preparation to receive the sacrament. This involved simplifying the gospel for them and assigning craft/art ideas to coincide with the readings, which then involved co-ordinating their involvement in the mass.
I approached a few musicians/singers and we created Cór na nÓg with the help of others in the assembly. This involves practices on a weekly basis and the children sing at mass once a month approximately. Cór is still going from strength to strength.
I was an active member of various sub-committees within the parish, organizing events like 'The Young Photographer of the Year', flower festivals in the church and numerous annual special events/masses in the church.
I took on the role of coordinating Childrens rotas for Enniskeane church and Castletown church. This involved encouraging children to serve on the altar, serve as gift bearers and prayers of the Faithful readers every year, usually done once they settle into a new school year. I was then involved in the training for the various roles and coordinated with the Parish Assembly for the extra annual masses (e.g. Graveyard mass). I compiled rotas for both churches and distributed them to their parents and the Prayers composer. I was also the primary 'source' when problems arose, usually with a good outcome very achievable. I did this role for 12 years, taking retirement this past June.
CCE Baile Nuis
I am an active member in Newcestown Comhaltas, having served on the committee over the years. I actively participate in music sessions with the over 18's on a monthly basis, and assist with the junior sessions encouraging them to participate whatever level they are at.
I give Traditional singing lessons weekly to promote singing within, and outside, the branch. I have competed in singing competitions in several Fleadh Ceoils, achieving several medals, a County title, a Munster title and had the opportunity to sing in the All-Ireland.
I have volunteered several times to be the supervisor for either ceili band or grúpa ceoil in preparation for Fleadh Ceoil at County, Munster and All-Ireland level.
I also volunteered to assist with the 'U12 ceili band tour' which involved taking the band to its members national schools in one day. It was very time restrictive and required quick and efficient set-up, chat and dismantle in a safe and fun environment.
Parents Association - St.Marys Central School, Enniskeane
I have been an active member of the parents association in St.Mary's Central school for several years with my most recent role being treasurer for the last 5years. Our annual Bingo night fundraiser is very successful involving alot of teamwork and compromise, hard work and dedication. I also volunteered to help out with Sports Day, and I always assisted and attended talk night for parents, setting up the room, serving tea/coffee and tidy up afterwards. Even now, when finished with primary school, my artistic skills have been called upon the decorate the stage for their upcoming bingo night.
St. Mary's GAA
I have volunteered in the club over the years in numerous roles. I was assistant trainer when my children were very young and I washed jerseys for 3 different teams for several years. I volunteer annually for Cúl camp, checking in and out each child daily, and assisting with the hospitality for the coaches & assistants. I also did the Covid-checks for all trainings and matches for the U12, U14 & U16 teams during the pandemic. I am readily available when called upon for the club.
Family
I believe my biggest achievement to be my family of 5. Voluntary redundancy was offered at work just after my third child was born so I decided to avail of it and stayed at home to rear my family. As I was the only one at home, I did every school run, took each and all of them to every music class, dancing class, football, soccer and hurling training and match, doctor/dentist trip, birthday party or play date, parent teacher meeting, fleadh ceoil, along with feeding everyone and running a home. As I was also involved in alot of community events over the years, so were my children. My now deceased parents lived near, and adored my children, so we visited often and in the later years they required alot of care so again my children were part of that. I am now divorced and still proud to say I still do every school run, class, meal etc but the best accomplishment/honor is the honest, kind and accomplished teenagers they now are.
