• Currently working as a Medical SHO at Bon Secours Hospital Cork, managing a broad spectrum of acute and chronic medical conditions in accordance with Irish clinical guidelines and standards. My role spans multiple specialties, including neurology, oncology, endocrinology, cardiology, respiratory medicine, gastroenterology and rheumatology, under the supervision of consultant physicians.
• I frequently undertake night shifts, during which I am the sole practitioner responsible for covering all medical inpatients, including those in the critical care unit, in the hospital. In this capacity, I independently manage acute deteriorations and medical emergencies, ensuring prompt clinical intervention and appropriate escalation to the on-call consultant when required. This role has strengthened my confidence in autonomous decision-making, acute care delivery, and effective prioritisation in high-pressure scenarios.
• In addition, I regularly serve as the team leader during resuscitation efforts, coordinating the response team during cardiac arrests and medical emergencies. I have gained advanced clinical skills in ALS protocols, and critical care stabilization, supported by my BLS and ACLS certifications.
• Further responsibilities include:
• Performing comprehensive assessments, ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests, and initiating management plans
• Recognizing signs of psychiatric disorders in medical patients and referring appropriately to psychiatry consultants

• Gained comprehensive exposure to psychiatric care through daily handovers, journal clubs, forensic case discussions, and morbidity & mortality meetings.
• Collaborated in multidisciplinary teams with psychiatry, psychology, social work, and occupational therapy.
• Skilled in the use of psychotropic medications, including antipsychotics, antidepressants, mood stabilisers, sedatives, and stimulants.
• Competent in clerking and presenting new admissions, conducting paediatric psychiatric evaluations, and formulating differential diagnoses.
• Experienced in managing psychiatric emergencies (aggression, suicidality, postpartum psychosis) and recognising comorbid medical conditions.

• Experienced in breaking bad news, debriefing after resuscitations, and integrating palliative care with empathetic communication.
• Recognised and managed child abuse and neglect cases, involving multidisciplinary teams (social workers, psychologists, child welfare).
• Conducted psychiatric workups in emergency settings, managed overdoses (benzodiazepines, opioids, organophosphates, antidepressants), addressed suicide risk, and de-escalated aggressive patients.
