  • This role involved:
  • All aspects of supporting Catholic young people, ages 15 to 21, in their spiritual journey to healing.
  • Sacramental preparation for those who requested to be prepared using a variety of in-house and other materials, depending on the starting point of the individual.
  • All aspects of keeping the Catholic Chapel in order day-to-day. Preparation of the chapel for the celebration of Mass and group work.
  • Liaising with parishes to encourage volunteers to support the Young People on a regular basis.
  • Liaising with the Parish Priest to ensure the weekly Celebration of Holy Mass, and to ensure the Sacrament of Confession was available to those who requested it.
  • Ensuring all paperwork was submitted in a timely manner to security, to ensure security clearance for visitor access.
  • Statutory duties, as laid down in the Prison Service Instruction manual, are assigned on a rota basis.

  • Supporting men of all faith traditions who are incarcerated in their spiritual journey to healing. My work involved helping men to understand how faith could help them lead a pro-social life while in prison and on release.
  • Supporting staff as required, in particular if they were involved in incidents in the prison units where disorder had occurred.
  • Organizing the office in such a way that would add to the cohesion of the chaplaincy team.
  • Contacting organizations and local churches for resources to support the men.
  • Networking with local parishes and inviting priests to the prison to administer the sacraments to the Catholic men, as requested.
  • Submitting security documentation for the security clearance of invited visitors.
