Dr. Mahmoud Yousef Ghoneem holds position of an Associate Professor of Architecture, with over 25 years of academic, professional, and consulting experience in sustainable design, urban development, and landscape architecture. He is currently a faculty member in the Department of Architecture and Building Science at King Saud University, where his work bridges academia, professional practice, and strategic quality enhancement in higher education.
He earned his Ph.D. In Architecture from Helwan University (2011), and holds postgraduate diplomas in Urban Management for Climate Change from Erasmus University (Netherlands), and Disaster Resilience from NIRD (India), along with an MBA from IBSS (Denmark). These multidisciplinary qualifications support his integrated approach to teaching, research, and architectural consultancy.
Dr. Ghoneem previously served as a visiting professor at Cardiff Metropolitan University (UK), and has led curriculum reform and accreditation efforts at leading institutions across the MENA region. As an accredited reviewer with the Saudi Education and Training Evaluation Commission (ETEC), he contributes actively to national and international quality assurance frameworks, including NCAAA and NAAB.
He has supervised numerous postgraduate theses, contributed to the design of strategic academic programs, and led institutional quality initiatives. His scholarly output includes over 30 peer-reviewed publications, in addition to editorial roles for conference proceedings with Springer, Elsevier, and Taylor & Francis.
Beyond academia, he has served as a lead consultant and principal designer on major architecture and planning projects across Egypt, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Oman, and other Gulf states, integrating theory with real-world urban development. His work exemplifies a rare balance of visionary academic insight and practical design leadership, making him a pivotal figure in the discourse on resilient, climate-responsive architecture in the Middle East.
