During my work I have undertaken the following tasks:
Completed walks and play with dogs in all seasons and weather. I have undertakend dog sitting during day and night. Dog breeds I have worked with include border collie, labrador, golden retriever, greyhound, vizsla, and german shepherd. In my work I have treated dogs in my care with kindness providing regular updates to their owners. I also worked with nervous and aggressive dogs to build confidence and trust for safe, happy walks.
I worked in Dublin Zoo for a 2 week Internship. During this time I carried out a feeding ecology review on primates.
I was an observer the behaviour of Elephants and Tigers.
I also worked with the veterinary staff in an observer role with elephants and tigers.
I was the key worker in the Tern conservation project on Dalkey Island. For this work I recorded the number of tern birds nests daily on Dalkey Island. I also undertook
tern chick and gull ringing. Other work I carried out was fencing of bird nests and monitoring of gulls for signs of bird Flu. I also engaged I with the public and provided
information tours to visitors on terns and other animals (goats, rabbits and rats) on Dalkey Island
During my work experience in Tropical World I undertook animal husbandry looking after different species with high levels of care and patience. I managed the hands-on day-to-day husbandry of a variety of (monkeys, birds, reptiles and turtles) and other exotic animals. This work included feeding and watering of animals and cleaning of their enclosures. I also maintained feeding records for animals and reformed public tours and helped visitors handle reptiles.
During my two week internship in the wildlife hospital I provided animal husbandry to wild animals including badgers, foxes, cygnets, otters, and hedgehogs. I also worked a night warden when I had to observe and feed all animals overnight in the hospital.
As a summer job I was involved in a fawning project lead by UCD Zoology Department. This work involved the capturing and release of fawns in the Phoenix Park. I also assisted in the tagging, weighing and checking of the fawns' health and age before release.
As part my Post Leaving Cert work placement I worked in Noah's veterinary office two days a week for a year.
This work involved observing animals looking for signs of illnesses or injuries. I also cleaned and sterilised equipment, instruments and materials used to treat animals. I also gave assistance to vets when they were performing procedures and operations.
During transition year I worked with horses one day a week in Childvision in Drumcondra. The work I carried out included cleaning out the stables, feeding and grooming horses. I also helped the children from Childvision ride the horses by guiding the horse and making sure the horse remained calm.
