Audiological Clinical Experience

HSE
2022.09 - Current

Clinical Audiology Experience

In September 2022, I commenced my in-house adult placement weekly at the Brookfield Health and Science Complex. During my clinical placement, I systematically conducted thorough patient assessments, beginning with in-depth history-taking and progressing through essential diagnostic procedures. Adeptly performing otoscopy, I ensured a meticulous examination of the ear, transitioning to tympanometry allowed assessment of middle ear function. Employing pure-tone audiometry both masked and unmasked. The use of speech testing and acoustic reflex thresholds when applicable.

Off-site Adult Placement (March 2023 - July 2023)

From March 2023 to July 2023, during my off-site adult placement in Galway and Mayo, I worked at Galway University Hospital ENT department, Sea Road Clinic in Galway, St. Mary's in Castlebar, and Ballina Primary Health Care Centre. Here, I gained proficiency in diagnostic testing, explaining results with compassion, hearing aid fittings, and counselling patients and their families. While gaining valuable experience and advice from my five practice educators on placement, I learned great skills especially when counselling patients such as compassion and empathy especially to patients who felt debilitated due to their hearing loss.

Paediatric Placement (September 2023 - Present)

In September 2023, I transitioned to my paediatric placement at the Brookfield Audiology Clinic. Here, I developed skills in paediatric tympanometry, otoacoustic emissions and both visual reinforcement audiometry and play audiometry and effectively communicating results to parents. Additionally, I observed the workings of ABR and ASSR. I am looking forward to my offsite placement commencing on April 22nd to enhance my paediatric audiology.
