AUDIT & QUALITY IMPROVEMENT

Audit: Compliance with Stop Smoking Guidelines in Respiratory Wards (MECC in Action).

Date: April 2026.

Aim: To assess compliance with Irish Stop Smoking National Clinical Guidelines No.28 among respiratory patients. 

Method: Retrospective chart review of inpatients. 

Outcome: 1 in 4 patients had no smoking status documented. Only half of the current smoker had documented advice given, or nicotine replacement charted., 

Changes implemented: Education to NCHD at Grand Rounds on the importance of documentation of smoking status and need for encouragement of smoking cessation and nicotine replacement. 

Audit: 2 Cardiology Audits, 3 Stroke Audits (In Progress).
