Clinical Experience, Connolly Hospital Dublin
Junior Doctor, Respiratory Medicine & Internal Medicine/Stroke
07/2024 – 01/2025
As a junior doctor, I was involved in a wide range of clinical tasks across both departments, collaborating closely with senior medical staff and multidisciplinary teams:
In addition, I actively participated in on-call shifts, managing up to 100 patients. I was the first point of contact for acutely unwell patients, performing assessments and initiating investigations and treatments as necessary. As the designated cardiac arrest bleep holder, I was responsible for administering compressions and medications during cardiac arrests.
During my 8-week rotation with the stroke team, I participated in FAST calls, conducted NIHSS assessments, and assisted in patient management, including accompanying patients to imaging and facilitating care coordination.
Pre-Clinical Years (Years 1-2):
During the first two years of my medical education, I attended lectures, seminars, and practical sessions focused on the foundational medical sciences, including anatomy, physiology, pharmacology, and pathology. I developed a solid understanding of core medical knowledge, which I applied during clinical placements in later years.
Clinical Placements (Years 3-4):
In my final two years, I completed clinical placements across various specialties, gaining hands-on experience in both inpatient and outpatient settings.
Throughout my clinical rotations, I refined my clinical skills, including history-taking, patient examination, communication with patients and healthcare teams, and documentation. I was also involved in preparing and presenting cases during ward rounds and engaging in discussions about treatment options and management plans.
