Special Needs Assistant – Subbing

  • I work alongside pupils with various additional needs e,g Autism, Downs syndrome and Epilepsy from 1st year to 6th year
  • I assist these students with classroom work, carrying out tasks under the direction of the teacher.
  • I also assist with care needs, e.g. Toileting, washing hands, etc.
  • I assist with classwork preparation and liase closely with teaching staff.

  • This was a very busy job which entailed gathering information from 400 households in relation to the population of Ireland
  • I worked on my own initiative and communication was a very important part of the role in order to liaise with members of the public
  • The position was a short-term contract and one which I enjoyed

  • I started my career working in Dublin North Inner City in the Bridwell station in 2006 and I was based there until September 2009
  • My duties here included dealing with prisoners daily in the courts, manning courts, beat and community duties and preparing files for court. I also carried out office duties in the Sergeants office i.e, filing , preparing reports and issuing summonses .
  • In September 2009 I transferred to Westmeath Division where I was stationed in Delvin Garda station until October 2010 where I then took up position in the Garda Traffic Corps for 3 years
  • I then moved onto the regular unit in Mullingar Garda station and took up role of Divisional controller, i.e., receiving emergency calls, dispatching Gardai to calls, dealing with other emergency units and viewing cctv monitors
  • In October 2017 I commenced a career break to look after my 3 children whom at the time were all under 2 years of age
  • All my duties as a Garda have taught me, empathy, patience, confidentiality, ability to work as part of a team and an excellent communicator
