Summary

I am a detail-oriented team player with strong organizational skills, and the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously with a high degree of accuracy.

Inherent to my role as a HSE Paramedic, was quality of service delivery to service users on a time-critical basis in conjunction with risk assessment of their requirements, subsequent treatment of same until their hand over to acute hospital stakeholders upon which there was further risk assessment analysis advocating for the service users requirements at that point while being cognisant of hospital service demands.

Fundamental to performing this role was operating within HSE policies, protocols, procedures, and guidelines (PPPGs) relevant to the role and job description. The adherence and compliance with same required to reassure the quality of service delivery and mitigation of risks during operations, e.g. Daily vehicle, onboard equipment, and drug checks. Additionally, a high level of autonomy was frequently required to be utilised in this acute setting role in conjunction with strict compliance of HSE PPPGs regarding the treatment of service users.

While in this role, and in collaboration with a colleague I was involved in the development of an improved, more user-friendly and accurate drug tracking system designed to mitigate risks related to potential sub-optimal practice. This development was in response to risks in the previous system and was the quality improvement plan to address same.

From 2019 as an Emergency Control Operator with the Fire Service, similar aspects of operations were required to be utilized as outlined in my HSE Paramedic role albeit from a higher level of impact to address the needs of the service users. Time critical assessment of situations were realised and reacted to, as soon as received from emergency callers involving critical response networking and justifiable prioritsation with the fire service and frequently liaising with other emergency response stakeholders such as air and sea rescue.

While in this position I accepted the role of Health & Safety Representative. The undertaking of this additional role coincided with the onset of the Covid period; its subsequent operational restrictions and work practice modifications resulting in acute awareness of maintaining quality of service for staff and reducing or managing their associated risks during this difficult and protracted period. As Health and Safety Representative, risks were raised to me and subsequently escalated to management by me within our service's governance structure.

During this work period, we moved premises twice. Again, in my role as Health & Safety Representative I was tasked with analysis of risk, escalation of these risks, regarding quality of service delivery in conjunction with these relocations.

In the ambulance service, I have trialed CPR devices, such as LUCAS, Thumper and Auto-Pulse. I have also trialed EPCRs and provided feedback, performed troubleshooting and suggested constructive criticisms on same.

In conjunction with leading change in the ambulance service I have been co-published twice: -

In the Fire Service we introduced a new call take and dispatch system. We were the Irish pilot site for this rollout. This required troubleshooting, providing feedback, both to management and the systems creative company; again constructive criticism to bring about quality improvements to the system were submitted by me. In my role as Emergency Control Operator in the Fire Service, I reviewed potential risks of the new system with the intention of mitigating actual incidents arising from observed potential risks. This involved the reporting of near misses in relation to the new system within the Fire Service's governance structure. I was all the while aware of nationally mitigating risk with the new system implementation as we were the pilot site for same.
