Seasonal Guide/Information Officer

Office of Public Works

  • My seasonal tour guiding job over the past 4 summers has involved giving 1 hour guided tours of up to 48 visitors at Knowth Monument, part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site complex of Brú na Bóinne in County Meath.
  • Over the past 4 summers I have continued to develop a tour script for this incredibly complex site, spanning over 13 phases of activity from the Neolithic Period, Bronze Age, Iron Age right up to later Medieval periods.
  • Using time management I also had to ensure my group got on the bus on-time after an hour on site with me. I was responsible for operating audio visual equipment on site for my groups and audio guides at the visitor centre.
  • I handled receipts, cash, and operated a ticketing till system (Admit-One) at our visitor centre. I was also responsibly for counting cash floats and end of date sheets at the end of the working day.
  • Occassionally I assisted with translation groups, and gave parts of my tours through Spanish when appropriate to ensure for a more seamless experience for visitors to a site of this calibre.
