ESB is an energy company established in Ireland in 1927 which has a significant portfolio of Generation assets across the UK and Republic of Ireland.

At the Carrington thermal CCGT (Combined Cycle Gas Turbine) Power Station where I am situated, my main responsibilities consist of:

  • Managing site specific projects that have defined time or functional start and end criteria. These may include CAPEX projects, plant investigations, technical and commercial project assignments, audits etc
  • Planning of outages on the main Combined Cycle Gas Turbine plant and other major items of plant
  • Project management of outages on the main Combined Cycle Gas Turbine plant and other major items of plant
  • Development of contingency plans associated with the above
  • Review of contracts, programmes, project and commercial documentation associated with outages
  • Engineering support on long term asset management via CAR and LTAP processes
  • Ensuring plans meet safety, environmental, quality, technical, and commercial targets
  • Collating and analysing technical and commercial data
  • Engineering support on the computerised maintenance management system
  • Develop and test site Business Continuity Plans
  • Engineering support to operations and maintenance teams, including management of plant modification and optimisation projects
  • Proactive involvement in Station Safety initiatives and activities. Enforcing stirct safety regulations securing a safe working environment for all staff and contract members onsite

At the Carrington thermal CCGT (Combined Cycle Gas Turbine) Power Station, my main responsibilities in the role consisted of:

  • Contract and contractor management. Ensuring contracts are complying to original specifications. Ensuring service visits are timely and complying with contract requirements. Managing the contract works. Creating tender documents and following tender processes when new contracts are needed.
  • Planning maintenance/repair/installation activities which may involve creating work orders through CMMS, creating and reviewing method statements and risk assessments, sourcing and purchasing materials and/or labour and proactively cost challenging to minimise budget spend.
  • Project work from proposal phase, planning, monitoring, through to implementation and close out. Management, budgetary and technical aspects.
  • Planning, coordinating and delivering various scopes of work for major inspections/shutdowns to maintain station reliability and to comply with Power Generation Technical Standards.
  • Fault finding and maintenance on C&I hardware, automation systems and HV/LV Electrical systems in order to resolve defects and ensure plant availability at all times.
  • Safety culture. Using Safe Systems of Work processes at work controller level. Reviewing third party RAMs and safety briefing contractors for compliance with our safety standards.

  • Maintaining, repairing and installing various types and manufacturers of electrical equipment (single and 3phase motors, VSDs, DOLS) and instrumentation equipment (Flow, level, pressure, temperature and analytical).
  • Creating and updating maintenance procedures (OPLs & Job plans).
  • Fault finding, using PI trends for data analysis to investigate issues of process/equipment.
  • Using Foxboro I/A DCS (Distributed Control System) to monitor plant performance and ensure process equipment functionality.
  • Safety culture, using LOTO (lockout/tagout) system. Selecting relevant risk assessments and completing task specific risk assessments.
