I am a carpenter by trade though I also spent quite a few years driving public transport. As I'm now approaching my sixtieth birthday in September I'm looking for a career change that will hopefully keep me active while maintaining a steady income. I believe I'm as fit, strong and healthy as any thirty-year-old so well capable of meeting any of the physical challenges I may face. I've always had a strong sense of obligation to my duties and apply due diligence in whatever I do. My current position with Hillarys Blinds no longer suits as it is either very busy, where I'm obliged to work long hours and weekends to meet deadlines, or quite slack while I'm waiting on the next orders arriving. I need a regular routine and income which I can then plan my life around.
I've enjoyed the experience with Hillarys. The interaction with customers and varying challenges meant every day was different. The irregular hours however no longer suits.
Due to the recession in the construction industry I took a job in PSV driving with Dublin Bus. I left to pursue a more varied and challenging role as a self-employed advisor and fitter with Hillarys Blinds when the economy recovered.
I freelanced, working for myself and sometimes other builders and maintenance contractors on a self-employed basis. I also did some "Door
to Door" sales - reading electric and gas meters converting customers to the lower rates during deregulation of the energy markets.
Analytical and organisational skills come naturally to me
I'm practical and logical in my approach to problems
I'm thorough and have a good attention to detail
I'm good at compartmentalising
I've many years experience driving in busy city traffic both in a public and private capacity
