Facilities Engineer

European Refreshments
01.2020 - 08.2022
  • Worked on many projects to help reduce costs and increase efficiencies across the plant
  • These have included a good reduction in Nitrogen costs for 2022 with further reductions to be seen in 2023 and subsequent years
  • Reduction in energy usage and part of the team to develop a carbon neutral site in the near future
  • Develop a design for inline heating in batching that will be implemented later this year

Maintenance Lead

European Refreshments
Wexford
01.2013 - 01.2020
  • Maintenance lead in European Refreshments
  • Over the last few years this role has expanded to include working on the design and development of a major expansion (Project Sherlock)
  • Here I have been able to introduce new technologies that have proven to work well including a new design of agitator
  • I have proven my ability to have a hands-on approach during the construction stage to ensure decisions were made promptly and to ensure the quality of the final product
  • I constantly use learnings I have gained from courses including process safety and Certified Energy Manager to ensure the plant is designed with both safety and efficiency in mind
  • Other projects I have worked on over the last few years include changing the control methodology and the type of pump used for the filtration process
  • This has proven to be a great success with a smoother process and no material leaks
  • There was a reluctance for change on this process but now this change has proved to be the way of choice
  • Another project I have driven is the introduction of a totally new design of pump for flavour manufacturing- an eccentric disc pump
  • After initial trials this has also proven to be the desired style of pump for material transfer and a second pump has been ordered
  • I have introduced self-draining ball valves as standard for project Sherlock and now have started to retrofit these in areas of the plant
  • These have shown to be successful and have been proven to clean superior to the original valves
  • I am currently working on projects including the upgrade of the weighbridge to increase the accuracy and a treated water production upgrade to increase the production capability of treated water and reduce the manhours required for the sanitisation of the carbon filters
  • I have a proven ability to negotiate with vendors to ensure we always get the best value for money
  • This was proven with significant savings achieved during the procurement stage of Project Sherlock

Maintenance Technician

Atlantic Industries
Wexford
01.2010 - 01.2013
  • From 2010 I was employed as a maintenance technician in Atlantic Industries Wexford
  • This role involved both the planning and completing of preventative maintenance on all equipment throughout the plant
  • I developed preventative maintenance plans and schedules for plant equipment and utilities through the computerised maintenance system
  • I also developed calibration plans and schedules for instruments throughout the plant
  • I also negotiated maintenance contracts from external service providers
  • This included annual reviews of past performance and the expected service requirements for the future at the best possible rate
  • I believe as part of the maintenance team we are plant and equipment owners and it is our duty and responsibility to keep the plant running smoothly and efficiently and to ensure all equipment is maintained to the highest possible standard
  • I have worked on many projects in the last three years and they include implementing some changes to the control system for the plant chilled water which has resulted in savings in energy costs of around fifty thousand euro per year
  • This was achieved without any capital outlay
  • I also have worked on the installation of a wash data management system that monitors all washes on both the IBC washer and the drum washer
  • This allows us to have a wash report for every container that enters the filling area
  • This year we intend to develop this further by incorporating more information and also attaching electronic photographs to the data
  • I was involved with the supply of new agitators for the mobile vessels
  • At the FAT I discovered some design faults with the units
  • I worked with the supplier to change the gearbox as well as some other minor changes and this resulted in units that are far more reliable, have a longer life span and are far more efficient to run
  • Current projects include the installation of a new washer for IBC’s, installation of barriers and wall protection around the plant, lighting controls for energy saving, purchase of new scissors lift, water saving project that involves reusing the waste stream of the RO as a feed to the cooling towers, wash area for IBC’s and refinements to the glycol chillers to improve reliability and performance
  • I have a proven track record of been capable of balancing short term projects with day to day activities and to adapt to tasks and challenges as they arise
