Since graduating I have worked as a RPN in a variety of health care settings throughout WXMHS, these include:

• Acute in-patient psychiatric ward - Department of Psychiatry, University Hospital Waterford
• Mental Health / Intellectual Disability Residential Unit
• Psychiatry of later life
• Day hospital service

Responsibilities:

➢Assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating individualized care plans in collaboration with service users and the MDT.

➢Caring for service users with acute conditions - Delivering effective care whilst building therapeutic relationships and responding to both their physical and emotional needs.

➢Assessing the mental state of service users daily, documenting and monitoring any change to their presentation.

➢Carrying out 1:1 sessions with service users, actively listening and allowing time to ventilate their feelings.

➢Interacting with service users' families and members of the MDT - offering advice and information on service users' conditions.

➢ Co ordinating and facilitating group therapy sessions which are aimed at education and promoting service users' mental recovery.

➢ Overseeing the therapeutic monitoring of antipsychotic medication both inpatient and in community settings.

➢Assisted in crisis intervention scenarios with calm, professional demeanor.

➢ Precepting and educating students and newly qualified nurses.

➢Conducted over-the-counter sales, providing customers with advice and information on products in a professional manner.

➢ Liaised with health care professionals when addressing prescription queries.

➢ Managed supplier relationships whilst overseen the purchasing of orders and the maintenance of inventory.

➢Maintained appropriate drug storage procedures such as registries of controlled drugs.

➢Verified accuracy of prescriptions before dispensing, guaranteeing patient safety.
