Jamie Scales

During my time at Maryfield College, I was employed as a Religious Education, Transition Year Activities, English, DML, and Work Experience teacher.

Classes taught:

• 1st-6th Religious Education.
• TY English, Work Experience, DML and Activities.
• 1st English and CSPE.
• SEN.

Roles:

• Organised school activities, assemblies, and retreat days related to religious and cultural themes.
• Created inclusive lesson plans encouraging discussion and respect for diverse beliefs.
• Oversaw the TY Work Experience programme, supporting students with CV development, placement coordination, and reflection exercises.
• Worked extensively with TY students, teaching them coding skills for DML in order to develop working scripts for games as a pastime.
• Involved with the school's SEN department in providing additional support for EAL students.

During my time at St. Vincent's, I was employed as an English, History, SPHE, and Religion teacher.

Classes taught:

• 2nd, 3rd, and 5th Year English.
• 2nd and 3rd Year History.
• TY Religion.
• 3rd Year SPHE.

Roles:

• Involved in the school's Accelerated Reader Programme. The purpose of this was to monitor my students' reading capabilities, as well as to encourage independent reading at home.
• Planned and implemented lessons utilising a variety of teaching strategies to meet diverse student needs.
• Performed on stage for school performance activities, such as St. Vincent's Fashionably Talented show and a teacher lip sync battle to raise money for charity.
• Worked alongside the principal of the CBS primary in having my Transition Year Religion class assist the school's AISTEAR learning initiative for its infant classes.

I was employed as a substitute teacher for the academic year 2021-2022 and as a full-time teacher for the academic year 2022-2023.

• TY English.
• 5th Year English and Religious Education.

Roles:

• Assisted with the facilitation of the school's chess club each week, as well as the coordination of small tournaments with other chess teams.
• Involved with the School Self-Evaluation Committee. My primary role was to assess the effectiveness of online learning platforms, such as Nurture, in relation to improving formative feedback for students.
• Hosted an essay writing competition for students during the school's celebration of Arts Week.
