I recently graduated from the Atlantic Technological University with honors in Medical Biotechnology. I encountered several hurdles returning to education after extensive travelling as one might imagine, however, gained various skills throughout my journey. At present i work in pharmaceuticals in Westport and although my time has been short, I learned a great deal of techniques including particulate matter testing, Water Intrusion testing, bioburden testing and filtration. While at my current position, I remain the health and safety representative for my department and consistently highlight areas of improvement to the sites Health and Safety goals. Over the previous year or so of education, I embarked on two separate summer work placement opportunities, of which provided differing skillsets upon completion. I consider myself a forward thinker and thrive in pressurized environments leading me to embark on alternative employment opportunities from my current situation. At present, I have just left education and my drive and passion is at its highest and would love the opportunity to join a fast paced pressurized environment where my knowledge and skills can be tested on a daily basis and thinking on your feet is a requirement.
I recently completed my Thesis on the effects of light on secondary metabolite production in Rasamsonia emersonii. The experimental procedure for my thesis began by culturing up the fungus in differing media at different temperatures in light and darkness, while maintaining aseptic techniques. After one week of incubation at selected temperatures, the supernatant was collected from culture flasks and stored at -40 degrees for further use. Using a method of Disc Diffusion assays, the supernatant was observed for antimicrobial compounds using various microbial lawns on agar plates. With meticulous planning and organization of tasks, I am currently in a position to finalize my research early with an extensive degree of results.
