I am currently studying at the University of Galway undertaking a level8 BA hons in social care. I study this part–time and it will take 3 more years to complete. I am also working part-time at Acquired Brain Injury Ireland as a Rehabilitation assistant working with adults with an Acquired brain injury in residential care and working shifts with a healthcare agency as a social care assistant looking after adults with intellectual disabilities. I have completed HSE training which is up to date and have SAMS medical administration training, first aid, manual handling and patient handling and buccal certificates. Previous to this I have had experience working with adults in Residential care with the Camphill communities of Ireland and St John of God –Kerry Services providing care to venerable adults with different intellectual disabilities and Adapting to their various needs and supports daily. When supporting clients i was responsible for key working, following care plans that were devised by a multi-disciplinary team, advocated for clients' rights when needed and provided companionship and support. The last4 years I have been working towards a career change into the health and social care sector from being self-employed for over15 years. I am trustworthy, reliable, and diligent as I always had a passion for working with people throughout my career. I have acquired an array of transferable skills in my experiences throughout my employment history, all leading me towards starting a new career in healthcare /Social Care to help care with compassion to aid the most vulnerable in my community. I had a gap in my career due to staying at home to focus on my 3 children who are now in their teenage years. My previous work in hospitality has helped me to travel widely living in in the channel island, UK, France, and Australia. I know working within social care can be challenging but believe it is rewarding all the same.
