I am a cleaning technician in the Emergency Department in University Hospital Waterford. The Emergency Department in Waterford sees an average of 170 to 250 patients daily. The tasks I carry out are as follows:

• Clean and sanitise the Emergency Department, including patient rooms, treatment areas, waiting rooms, corridors, and staff facilities.
• Following strict infection prevention and control procedures to maintain a safe and hygienic healthcare environment.
• Safely handle and dispose of clinical and general waste in accordance with hospital policies.
• Operate and maintain cleaning equipment and use cleaning chemicals safely.
• Work closely with healthcare staff to ensure high standards of cleanliness and patient safety.
• Comply with health and safety regulations, hospital policies, and confidentiality requirements.
• Complete cleaning duties efficiently while maintaining professionalism in a fast-paced emergency department.

I worked as a health care assistant for work experience during my Nursing Studies course at May Park Nursing Home. The nursing home was for dementia and Alzheimer’s patients, there were 21 residents at the time I worked there. The responsibilities I had were as follows:

• Assisted residents with personal care, including bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, and feeding while maintaining dignity and respect.
• Supported residents with dementia and Alzheimer's disease by providing compassionate, person-centred care.
• Assisted residents with mobility and safe transfers using appropriate manual handling techniques.
• Monitored residents' wellbeing and reported any changes in their physical or mental condition to senior healthcare staff.
• Encouraged residents to participate in social, recreational, and therapeutic activities to promote well-being.
• Maintained a clean, safe, and comfortable environment in accordance with infection prevention and health and safety procedures.
• Assisted in ensuring residents received adequate nutrition and hydration.
• Communicated effectively with residents, families, nurses, and multidisciplinary team members.

• Maintained accurate documentation and respected residents' confidentiality at all times.
