My name is Emma Stafford, and I am a 17-year-old student currently seeking a part-time position for work. I am particularly interested in working in hospitality, as I feel my customer service and public engagement skills will help me excel in such a role. I am a resilient and hardworking individual and look forward to gaining experience that can stand to me in my future.
I was accepted into the highly sought-after TY programme in Eirgrid, which benefited me greatly. Here I spent time in the financial, engineering, and technology sectors, as well as many more, learning about the different job titles and what they entail. I learned to work as a group and engage in many different projects and develop my presentation skills as well as public speaking.
One of my most beneficial work experience placements was my time at Whitney Moore Law Firm. Here, I experienced first hand what it looks like to work in litigation, commercial, and property law as I shadowed solicitors. I spent time observing cases in Dublin's Four Courts, as well as working as a receptionist in the main offices. Here, I developed interpersonal skills, as well as navigated the systems used to keep offices running efficiently.
I also spent time working at Folens Publishers for work experience. This proved beneficial as I gained a better understanding of a work environment and how to deliver under pressure, with good time management skills. I organized files and completed spreadsheets for the editors, as well as writing articles that have since been published. I attended meetings and developed great interpersonal skills in the workplace when working with editors and assisting in decision-making.
I previously completed work experience at Donovan's Centra in Maynooth as part of my Transition Year program. Here, I stacked shelves and helped with general duties in the store, such as checking dates, cleaning the store, and engaging with customers in a friendly manner and assisting them with their needs. I also gained experience behind the coffee dock while I was working here, as other senior staff members trained me in making different coffees, how to manage the equipment, how to clean the equipment, and how to manage the till.
