  • The aim of this project was to Express Recombinant Green Fluorescent Protein (GFP) from Jellyfish in E-Coli cells and purify the protein using different techniques such as Cell Lysis, Affinity Chromatography and show the purified protein on SDS-PAGE.


Industrial Placement Project | Individual | Year 4

  • As part of our fourth-year course we had to undertake an industrial placement project. This consisted of working with a PhD student in the department of chemistry NUIG along with the marine institute in Galway, the aim of this project was to extract all possible compounds from the samples been examined. From this a new fatty acid compound was extracted, with the profile been examined using NMR and Mass Spec. Isolation and purification was carried out using different types of HPLC techniques. The structure was determined as a (E)-11- ocohexacdec-9-enoic acid
