Summary

I am a graduate of Medicine from University College Dublin. I completed the Higher Specialist Training in Endocrinology, Diabetes Mellitus and General Internal Medicine and am registered specialist with the Irish Medical Council since 2022 (IMCN 406389). I am currently working as a clinical research fellow in Kings College London and completing a PhD in hypoglycaemia and continuous glucose monitoring. I have excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team. I have a proven track record of delivering on large scale projects, as shown in the delivery of the Hypo-METRICS study. I also have extensive experience with technology, smart-phone application development, statistics and coding.

  • I am currently working in Kings College London Diabetes Research group on the Denmark Hill campus, with a special interest in hypoglycaemia and technology
  • Key to my role was the successful delivery of the Hypo-METRICS study across 9 sites in the UK and EU
  • Hypo-METRICS, part of the HypoRESOLVE consortium, was an Innovative Medicines Initiative multi-million euro funded observational study designed to provide an evidence-based definition of continuous glucose monitoring hypoglycaemia and further the understanding of the clinical, psychological and health economic impact of hypoglycaemia
  • Academically I collaborate with fellow researchers in my field across the UK, EU, USA and Australia
  • I was involved in the development of the Hypo-METRICS smartphone application, allowing real-time measurement of hypoglycaemia experienced by people living with diabetes
  • I am a regular invited speaker at national and international meeting sharing clinical expertise on the topics of hypoglycaemia and technology
  • The clinical component of my role included running a specialist diabetes technology clinic and organising weekly journal club meeting during the COVID-19 pandemic
  • I gained clinical experience in diabetes mental health and islet cell transplant
  • During this time I have also covered medical and diabetes on call rota’s and acted up to consultant

  • I have been actively involved in both undergraduate and post-graduate education throughout my career

  • Throughout my career I have sought out management and leadership roles
  • Ran the Hypo-METRICS study, as part of the hypo-resolve consortium. This involved the writing and overview of the study protocol and standard operating procedures, securing ethics, educating over 50 members of the team across 9 sites in the Europe.
  • Set and run bi-weekly clinical service meeting and journal club in Kings College Hospital (Denmak Hill) during COVID-19 pandemic
  • NCHD representative for the Risk Management committee
  • Lead NCHD on two IT projects in St Vincent’s Hospital.

Research experience

  • As a clinical research fellow in Kings College London, I had the opportunity work within an innovative, progressive research diabetes department with special interest in hypoglycaemia and technology, under the tutelage of Prof Stephanie Amiel and Prof Pratik Choudhary
  • My primary responsibility was the delivery of the Hypo-METRICS study (NCT04304963). I was involved in the design, implementation, recruitment and governance of the trial, through to the analysis and overview of a large body of research output.
  • I was also sub-principal investigator on the commercial ADAPT study (NCT04235504 ). Our site was the 1st to recruit and also have the highest overall recruitment. This was the first use of the Medtronic 780G hybrid closed-loop system in the UK.
  • I provided input into the HarpDOC study (NCY02940873), randomised controlled trial of a novel psychoeducational group programme for the treatment of therapy resistant severe hypoglycaemia. My main role in this project was to provide guidance for the health economic evaluation of the programme.
  • As part of my role I also provided mentorship for early career researchers.
  • My certificate in Good Clinical Practice is up-to date
