Orthopaedics and Trauma

• Participated in the multidisciplinary management of patients presenting under the Orthopaedic and Trauma service in a busy tertiary referral centre.
• Participated in daily consultant-led ward rounds to facilitate patient care and management planning within a multidisciplinary team.
• Monitored postoperative patients, including pain management, neurovascular assessment, and recognition and management of surgical complications.
• Liaised with medical specialties and Orthogeriatric services to optimise the management of patients with complex medical co-morbidities.
• Maintained accurate clinical documentation, prepared discharge summaries, and coordinated discharge planning with physiotherapy, occupational therapy, and community services.

Emergency Medicine

• Assessed and implemented management plans for undifferentiated patients presenting with acute medical, surgical, and traumatic conditions under direct senior supervision.
• Performed initial investigations and facilitated timely diagnosis and treatment in a high-volume Emergency Department.
• Liaised with specialty services regarding referrals, admissions, and ongoing patient management.
• Participated in cardiac arrest, trauma, and medical emergency responses as part of the multidisciplinary Emergency Department team.
• Prioritised workload effectively in a fast-paced clinical environment while maintaining safe and efficient patient care.

Stroke Medicine

• Assisted in the delivery of acute stroke pathways, including assessment, imaging, and treatment of patients presenting with acute ischaemic and haemorrhagic stroke at Ireland's National Thrombectomy Centre.
• Attended FAST calls for primary assessment of patients presenting with symptoms of stroke, under direct supervision.
• Participated in the acute and ongoing management of stroke patients, including optimisation of medical co-morbidities and implementation of secondary prevention strategies.
• Collaborated closely with physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech and language therapy, dietetics, and specialist nursing teams to facilitate rehabilitation.
• Coordinated discharge planning, including transfers to rehabilitation and step-down facilities, and arranged appropriate outpatient follow-up in specialist stroke clinics.

Infectious Diseases

• Managed patients with complex and common infections from admission to discharge.
• Participated in the assessment and management of general medical admissions with diverse infectious and non-infectious presentations as part of a multidisciplinary medical team.
• Attended multidisciplinary meetings involving Infectious Diseases, Microbiology, Pharmacy, Cardiology and other specialty services to facilitate comprehensive patient care.
• Coordinated outpatient parenteral antimicrobial therapy (OPAT) and follow-up for patients requiring prolonged intravenous antimicrobial treatment for complex infections.

• Due to commence employment as a Senior House Officer in Emergency Medicine on a six-month contract beginning in July 2026.
• Will further develop experience in acute care medicine, clinical decision-making, and the management of undifferentiated Emergency Department presentations while undertaking the expanded responsibilities of a Senior House Officer.

• As part of my undergraduate degree, I undertook an elective in Paediatric Oncology through an Irish charitable organisation, Tumaini La Maisha, located in Tanzania.
• This provided an excellent learning opportunity and the chance to develop clinical knowledge and skills, within the bounds of a student's role, in a resource-limited setting.
• It provided early exposure to clinical settings and gave first-hand experience of patient care, from initial triage and diagnosis to immediate management, and follow-up care.
