Projects

  • MicroPlast Injection Molding Machine, Team Lead, 3rd Year Group Project: Led a team to build a plug-in PLC-controlled injection molding machine, which was nominated for Best Project at the ATU Galway Engineering Expo. Delegated tasks and ensured deadlines were met. Managed electrical wiring of all components including RCBOs, relays, PLC, heating bands, 24V fan, drivers, and stepper motors. Contributed to PLC programming and led troubleshooting and testing phases. Enhanced leadership, project planning, electrical wiring, and PLC programming skills.
  • Vision System, Individual project: Developed a Cognex vision system on the software Insight Explorer that would scan various pictures of highlighter pens and check for defects such as missing brand logo, absence of cap, correct colour of highlighter etc.
  • CAD Modelled Steam Engine, Group Project: Made and assembled a Steam Engine using top-down design on Creo Paramatic, which was 3D printed and displayed at the Engineering Expo in ATU Galway. Modelled the cylinder, camshaft, piston and piston housing, base plate and sliding plate. Strengthened teamwork and communication abilities as well as further developing Cad skills.
  • CNC Machined Pen, Individual Project: Designed pen components using Creo Parametric, assembled using CNC programming, and manufactured using CNC machine. Polished and assembled in workshop. Further developed understanding of CNC machines and G-code.
  • Single Valve Cylinder and Three Sisters Air Engine, Group Project: Manufactured diverse components from drawings with workshop tools. Models of these components were then remade on Creo Paramatic. Proficient in lathes, drills, milling machines. Skilled in tolerances, fits, and safety.
