Summary

Masters level engineer with hands on experience of precision manufacture, product development and CAD/CAM design through engineering internship carried out as part of my undergrad degree. This internship built on years of experience developed while working on various projects and equipment in the family farm, Recipient of bachelors and masters level degrees in mechanical engineering from the University of Galway. Skilled in Microsoft Office, CAD software’s AutoCAD and SolidWorks, programming language MATLAB and familiar with Fluid dynamics and FEA software’s such as Abaqus and Ansys. Aims to develop a career in the field of engineering, building upon skills developed during my bachelors and master’s level education, with hopes to gain years of experience working alongside an exciting and innovative company. Coursework executed throughout the duration of time spent studying in the University of Galway has provided essential skills to approach any engineering problem and find a suitable solution.

Intern Engineer

  • Internship carried out as part of the Professional Experience Programme for Engineers module as part of my undergrad. This role encompassed a wide array of tasks mainly aiding in the development of a manufacturing process for a new product as part of the company’s range, as well as everyday engineering tasks.
  • Measurement and record keeping of trial part dimensions and characteristics.
  • Gained extensive expertise on the operation and maintenance of the in-house EDM machine. Worked alongside SoDick engineers to allow the machine to operate using 0.1mm cutting wire. Developed and documented the process for accurately cutting rake and flank angles on cutting inserts. Implemented a maintenance schedule to ensure the machines reliability alongside my supervising engineer.
  • 3D design of bespoke components, producing technical drawings to a professional standard. 3D printing of parts. 3D printer maintenance and repair.
  • Calibration of measurement and tooling equipment on the workshop floor.
  • Technical drawing and router creation for ‘blank’ die product.
  • Contacting external companies pertaining to different tasks such as image system development.
  • Creating SOP’s to ensure the processes I developed were not lost when my internship ended.

Family Dairy Farm

  • Company Overview: Family Dairy Farm
  • Family farm initially operating as a sheep and beef enterprise, later diversifying to offering agricultural contracting services such as sheep shearing, relief milking, reseeding, silage services and some fabrication work. In 2024 the decision was made to diversify the farm from a suckler and sheep enterprise to dairy. This was a massive undertaking by the family which saw us pool together to project manage the construction of the new dairy facilities and setup a temporary milking parlour and milk cooling apparatus until the facility was ready for use, calf and milk 70 first calf heifers, while also carrying out as much of the construction process as we safely could ourselves.
