Work History

Laser Macine Operator /Value Stream Champion

Parker Hannifin (Snap Tite)
Whitmill industrial estate, Wexford
09.1993 - 04.2024
  • Parker Wexford is in the process of shut down and moving all production and machines to their company in Barnstaple UK.I have just recently returned from a 6-week period in Parker Barnstaple UK where I have been involved in training UK employees and overseeing the smooth handover from our Wexford Plant
  • I have been involved in many parts of production for Parker and previously Snap Tite over the years
  • I started working in the Hose area binding couplers onto hoses for potable water
  • Over the years I worked on setting up the looms for the manufacturing of hose
  • This involved setting up circular looms from scratch, inspecting the fabric, carrying out repairs to the fabric, extruding the manufactured hose and normalising it before packing it for distribution
  • After 15 years in The Hose department I moved over to the engineering department, this is where valves and fittings for oil and gas components are manufactured
  • I am currently value stream champion in this department
  • I travelled to Parker UK to train for this position
  • My position here involves making sure everything flows efficiently and all stations are staffed appropriately
  • I was involved in implementing a lot of new working procedures in this department such as 5S, lean and TPM and QCDS boards
  • I was also involved in setting up all the new work cell’s and subsequent Kaizen events which are done to help operators to perform jobs to a higher standard and more efficient
  • One example of this is to have tools and parts readily available in their area to reduce time wasted by walking around the factory and increase production time also helped setting up a tugger role .
  • I would oversee the new cell set up when we take on the manufacturing of new products
  • I traveled to Parker in Erie in Pennsylvania to learn how to make ball valves and on return set up the cell and trained personnel to make these products
  • I was also involved when we started to make pumps, setting up the new cell and training for this
  • I was involved in a lot of processes from secondary work also
  • Some of these tasks are, inspecting components coming off the CNC’S, deburring, sanding, polishing, building and testing parts to specification with different torques and pressure, laser etching parts with important information and traceability
  • Traceability is very important, we used to have to write everything in a booklet at every stage of production until I helped change it, firstly in my area by introducing a system using spreadsheets and barcoding, this was then rolled out to all other areas in the factory
  • I was also the Irish representative for parker Hannifan and would meet up once a year with other European representatives from other counties to meet with corporate management at our Euro forum to discuss our results for the year and our future plans and get to put questions forward to corporate that we would have accumulated from our workers
  • Working in parker I also learned to use kanban stock control, Excel and JDE system.

Catering assistant

Stena line Ferries Rosslare / Fishguard
01.1990 - 01.1993
  • Catering assistant with numerous duties on board the ship
  • Your workstation depended on how many passengers were onboard
  • I would have worked in the galley helping to prepare food, in the restaurant silver service, in the bar, in the hotel, in the duty free and also ran the mess for the crew.

General operative

Sheehans Cash and Carry
Killeens, Wexford
01.1989 - 01.1990
  • I worked in Sheehans cash and carry after school and on Saturdays and was then made full time
  • My duties would range from working in the storeroom loading and unloading lorries, booking in goods to pricing and putting away stock onto shelves to collecting orders and delivering to shops.
