Voluntary Work Experience

  • Samaritan, Volunteer, 2009, 2015, Duties involve manning call centre and offering callers an acceptance without prejudice while encouraging them to talk about their feelings, acknowledge their emotions and explore their options in a non-judgemental manner. Volunteers use their listening skills, recognise the needs of the caller and respond appropriately. Offer emotional support to caller who are in distress and despair.
  • Bunratty Search & Rescue Service, Volunteer, 2007, 2015, Duties include coordinating other agencies of the emergency services from Irish Coastguard, Gardaí, Limerick search and Rescue, Irish Coast Guard Helicopter Rescue Service, in launching sweep searches of waters and islands from Shannon to Limerick City. The aim of the service is to help bring closure for distressed and grieving families whose loved ones are reported missing on the river. This is a vital voluntary service for the community, survives due to the commitment of the crews of volunteers who provide their time, skills and ability in a physical and often hostile environment.
  • SS John and Paul’s church, Co sacristan, Shannon, 2007, 2015, Duties include day to day maintenance and upkeep of church and grounds, liaising between families, couples and clergy to ensure that religious ceremonies run efficiently. Good communication skills, teamwork, approachability are essential when dealing with people in understanding their difficulties or requests.
