Work History

Parliamentary Researcher and Assistant

Galway East TD
05.2023 - 09.2023

During the summer of 2023, I undertook a paid internship as a Parliamentary Researcher and Assistant for Deputy Sean Canney at Leinster House in Dublin 2. In this role, I helped the Deputy manage his social media accounts, promoting his initiatives and engaging with the public by helping to produce TikTok videos on current Dáil topics. I became very familiar with the Oireachtas database, maintaining files that included constituent information, legislative documents, and correspondence. Additionally, I provided general administrative support by answering phone calls, organising office tasks, and assisting constituents in navigating government services, as well as addressing their inquiries regarding policies and legislation. This experience enhanced my communication and organisational skills while deepening my understanding of governmental processes and public engagement.

Parliamentary Assistant

Galway East TD
07.2023 - 09.2023

During my time as a Parliamentary Assistant for Deputy Sean Canney in his constituency office in Tuam, County Galway, I effectively supported office operations while the Dáil was in recess for the summer. Building on my internship experience in Dublin, I worked independently to transfer physical documents into organised files on the Oireachtas database, ensuring accurate and accessible records. Unlike my time in Leinster House, this role allowed me to work much closer with constituents, as I handled enquiries both over the phone and in person at the reception, especially during times when the office was unattended. This hands-on interaction not only enhanced my Oireachtas administrative skills but also deepened my understanding of constituent services and parliamentary processes.
