  • Carried out as part of the Walsh Scholarship alongside completing a Research Masters
  • Worked alongside a dairy advisor in the North West Kilkenny area Duties include:
  • Profit Monitors - inputting farmer's data in PM, highlighting any issues, contacting the farmer for corrections and co-facilitating discussion group discussing PM trends.
  • Derogation - Contacting farmers for information needed, inputting all information to complete the plan, consultation with each farmer to explain the plan and plan the coming year for fertiliser.
  • BISS - completing BISS applications for Dairy, Beef and Tillage farmers, consultation with each client to ensure correct applications, managing any queries regarding new schemes.
  • Nutrient Management Plans - Contacting farmers for information needed, inputting all information to complete the plan, consultation with each farmer to explain the plan and suggest fertiliser for the coming year.
  • Co-facilitating discussion groups - Carrying out pre-group visits, carrying out grass measuring, winter fodder measuring & calculations, introducing the farm setup at the beginning of the meeting, discussing current trends around the group, discussion of various topics depending on the time of year (calving issues, spring grazing, breeding, silage making, slurry storage, fodder management, autumn grazing, building cover, winter fodder management, cull cows), managing any queries and concluding summary for the host farm.
  • Farm visits - discussing current statistics on the farm & compare to last year, carrying out grass measuring, slurry storage audits & calculations, winter fodder measuring & calculations, managing any queries.
  • Attending Dairy In Service Training monthly to improve knowledge and skills.
