Caoilfhionn Sheary

• I am currently studying Speech and Language Therapy in Trinity College Dublin and as part of our course we volunteered in a programme called Connect.
• As part of this programme we met with an individual with a speech disorder once a week to have a chat.
• I met with a man called Glenn, who suffered a hemorrhagic stroke two years ago and is still trying to recover much of his language.
• The idea of this program was simply to give Glenn the chance to speak with someone who would just listen and offer help with words when necessary. I thoroughly enjoyed taking part in this programme and found that it really improved my communication skills.

• Taught and looked after children from the ages of 4 to 13.
• Instructed younger children in foundational skills.
• Guided older kids through advanced skill development.
• Got the kids to work as a team in various games and drills.
• Organised the children into different teams, making sure they were evenly matched in skill and capability.
• Coordinated matches between teams; prepared fields, assigned positions, and officiated games.
• Set up equipment before the children's arrival and cleaned up after they had left.

Gained experience observing efforts to support individuals in their rehabilitation from drug addiction

• Sat in on group therapy sessions
• Sat in on an individual therapy session
• Participated in activities aimed at rehabilitation such as roleplaying and acupuncture
• Filled in as receptionist; answering and forwarding phone calls and taking and relaying messages

• Checked sizes of clothes were correctly displayed
• Arranged goods on shelves for display
• Priced goods according to their value
• Organised new stock in the stock room
