  • 16 Experience Relevant To The Role Please provide below SPECIFIC DETAILS from your experience to date that you feel help you meet the requirements for this post as detailed in the Job Specification Please note that the information supplied here will be taken into consideration in determining your eligibility and / or shortlisting / ranking for this campaign Please include dates ie from x date to x date, number of months, the name of the employer & Department you worked in, and details as to how you meet the requirements specified in the eligibility and ‘post specific requirements’ section of the Job Specification Date(s) from – Date(s) to Employer(s) & Department Name 2006- present Letterkenny University Hospital (Outpatients department) Please outline your depth and breadth of post registration nursing experience in the specialist area of ENT as relevant to the role With over 13 years’ experience of working in the ENT clinics, along with upskilling by means of a number of ENT centred courses, as well as completing a postgraduate level 9 qualification in ENT Skills, I believe that I am the ideal candidate for the role of CNS for ENT The majority of my career has been focused on the area of ENT, and I have gained a wealth of knowledge from working alongside the consultants, as well as training that enabled me to perform certain procedures independently I have a breadth of experience in all aspects of ENT related conditions, and have a wide-ranging knowledge of patient-centred care, including educating them on conditions and treatments Professional development has always been important to me, particularly in the field of ENT, and I have completed a number of courses that, along with practical experience, has allowed me to further my involvement with procedures and treatment These skills and education, along with the ability to communicate and work as part of a team have made me a valued member of the ENT department I have a passion for, and dedication to, this specialty, which in turn has kept me striving to increase my knowledge and skills, and to work towards providing the highest quality of service possible As a result of this, I have worked on several projects, including the writing of patient information leaflets, a policy for Nurse Delivered Aural Microsuction, and the ongoing development and running of a nurse-led wax clinic I am also, on a continuing basis, developing a database of head and neck patients in the Donegal area and compiling an information leaflet for the parents of children who present with tongue-tie My depth of involvement in the daily running and organisation of ENT clinics, as well as my familiarity with patient notes, documentation and lists of procedures carried out during clinics, has left me with a deep understanding of the functioning and management necessary to provide the insight required to ensure these are run to the most efficient levels This knowledge will also come in useful for evaluation and auditing of the clinics The ongoing development of the database for the Head & Neck clinic has already highlighted the increased incidence of head and neck cancers in the Donegal area Indeed, according to the ENT Clinical Services Strategy, it is predicted that by the year 2040 we will see an increase of head and neck cancers in women by up to 128% and by up to 108% in men With these numbers, it is clear that in the future ENT services will be required more and more That being the case, I feel that it is of utmost importance that these services are utilised to the best of our abilities, making the role of CNS in ENT both necessary and vital Being passionate about this field of medicine, I feel that I can contribute in a meaningful way to the challenges that lie ahead Possessing a high degree of compassion and empathy, I have built a relationship with the patients, both new and recurrent, who frequent the ENT clinics Having educated myself over the years on various conditions and treatments, I am able to allay their concerns and explain in clear language what this means for them and how it will be handled This allows the setting up of good communication pathways with the patients, and means that patients are leaving the clinic with a clear understanding and outlook of their plan of treatment, timelines and outcomes I have recently written and presented a talk on rhinology, alongside Ms Mona Thornton, ENT Consultant and Dr Joe Clarke, GP I have also been asked by Prof Camilla Carroll, RVEEH, Dublin, to present a topic at the upcoming Postgrad ENT Skills course at RCSI I have a view to continuing my academic participation in the future, and also feel that the knowledge and experience that I gain from this will be useful in providing education to colleagues, student nurses and nurses on study days I will also be presenting at an upcoming webinar on the topic of tracheitis in long Covid patients,
