  • I have worked my way up and through the various roles to my present role of Shift Supervisor, gaining knowledge and experience of many aspects of the site and business, from operations inside in the control room to operations primarily based outside on the entirety of the site.
  • My first role was as a Terminal Controller whose job it was to maintain a presence within the control room, to deal with all in house safety, security and terminal systems as well as act on any alarms that may occur. Other duties included assisting in upholding the terminal rules, helping with daily customer, driver and contractor queries, data inputting, assisting with stock management and terminal safety inductions.
  • My second role was as a Senior Terminal Operator which involved assisting with fuel imports into storage tanks, tank level dipping and sampling, on site maintenance, contributing to a safe working environment and other duties as per my Shift Supervisor which could vary from clearing and gritting the site in adverse weather to setting up of air pumps and hoses to drain down pipework or tank to tank transfers.
  • My current role is as Shift Supervisor which involves the shift to shift running of the site including managing operations within the control room, loading rack facilities, site storage tank farms, site import pipework, contractors and their work. I also liaise with our terminal partners Philips66 and Prax Petroleum on various subjects and lead a small team of staff to aid with the safe and successful operation of the site.

  • I worked my way up and through various roles within the company up to and including my final role as Traffic Clerk based in the control room.
  • I started out as an X-ray machine operator/factory floor operative. I was responsible for ensuring that freight destined for the Channel Islands, Belfast and the Isle of Man contained no dangerous goods or incendiary devices. I also completed trailer manifests and compiled reports for The Channel Islands Customs Authorities.
  • I then moved to a role as a Civil Aviation Authority approved IATA Dangerous Goods Specialist where I was responsible for ensuring that all dangerous goods were correctly identified, segregated and had all appropriate paperwork before goods were forwarded on.
  • My final role saw me as a Traffic Clerk where I was based within the control room and was responsible for the scheduling of outbound vehicles to other depots and East Midlands Airport as well as designation of loading bays for inbound vehicles. I also managed vehicle and shunter movements.
