Clinical Focus

• Provide specialist evidence-based assessment, management, and follow-up care for children with food, drug, environmental, and venom allergies, alongside atopic and general paediatric presentations
• Deliver allergy-specific interventions including diagnostics, patient education, health promotion, psychological support, anaphylaxis debrief, shared decision-making, and patient advocacy
• Demonstrate advanced clinical judgement and autonomous decision-making within specialist paediatric allergy service

Patient / Client Advocate

• Provide ongoing telephone and face-to-face support for children and families managing complex allergic conditions and immunotherapy pathways (aeroallergen SLIT and high-threshold nut/seed OIT)
• Support families through education and communication to promote understanding, confidence, and safe self-management
• Escalate clinical concerns appropriately while maintaining continuity of care and family support

Education and Training

• Deliver patient and family education across allergy pathways including oral food challenges, immunotherapy, and anaphylaxis management
• Contribute to cross-site allergy education, including delivery of NCHD Building Blocks teaching sessions
• Participate in continuous professional development including perioperative anaphylaxis training and intradermal testing in CHI Crumlin

Audit and Research

• Participate in a large-scale penicillin allergy de-labelling study (n=160 patients across four clinical sessions)
• Contribute to development and implementation of an SOP for penicillin allergy de-labelling into clinical practice
• Named author on research published in the Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology (2026)
• Contributed to a project nominated for the Irish Healthcare Awards 2025

Service Development / Leadership

• Coordinate oral food challenges including preparation, clinical monitoring, reaction management, waitlist coordination, and database maintenance
• Contribute to service development and quality improvement initiatives focused on patient flow, safety, and access to care
• Support cross-site allergy services within CHI, including fortnightly clinics and oral food challenges at CHI Connolly
• Participate in service integration initiatives including EHR development for the New Children’s Hospital

Professional Development

• Active member of the Irish Association of Allergy and Clinical Immunology
• Maintain ongoing CPD through national and international allergy and immunology conferences (IAAI national conference March 2026, NHS St Guy's London Annual food allergy study day April 2026) and cross-site training opportunities

• Currently working in allergy, since January 2023 0.48WTE, alongside Dr Aideen Byrne, Consultant Allergist and Allergy CNSs Helen O'Connor and Victoria McDonald. Clinical skills performed include paediatric allergy assessment, oral food and drug challenges, anaphylaxis recognition and management, skin prick testing and interpretation, sublingual immunotherapy, asthma/eczema education and child and parental education around allergy management and adrenaline auto-injector training.
• Worked on Beech day ward for 1 year part time, caring for pre and post- operative surgical patients, medical day cases

• Completed training as part of the Higher Diploma in Children's Nursing, with most placements based in CHI Temple Street, with one placement in CHI Tallaght.
• Exposure and experience gained in many aspects of paediatric nursing; acute medical and surgical nursing, emergency department, operating theatres, PICU and neonatal HDU.
• Invaluable experience gained in nursing infants and children from birth to adolescence, with a wide variety of medical and surgical presentations.

• Participated in rollout of Covid-19 vaccinations
• Worked as team lead in CNM2 capacity, assisting in effective organisation of large-scale clinics, vaccinating up to 1000 patients per day.
• Managing adverse reactions, such as anaphylaxis, vasovagal reactions and patient anxiety/needle-phobia.
• Managing staffing issues around rostering, breaks and supporting staff wellbeing while on duty.

• Clinical contact tracing during with Covid-19 pandemic
• Worked with HSE on nationwide contact tracing, identifying Covid positive patients, offering clinical advice re: symptom management, collecting information on contacts, to minimise the impact and spread of Covid-19.

• PACU/Recovery nursing in Stage 1 recovery- caring for both adult and paediatric patients in specialist ENT and Opthalmic hospital. Applied nursing expertise to meet needs of post-anaesthesia patients in challenging and high pressure environment.
• Worked closely with team of fellow nurses, doctors, patients and parents/families to ensure consistent communication for continued best care practices.
• Provided skilled, timely and level-headed emergency response to anaesthetic and surgical complications such as laryngospasm, bronchospasm, aspiration, anaphylaxis and trained to treat malignant hyperthermia, emergence delirium and haemorrhage.
• Management of unconscious patient and post emergence from anaesthesia, monitoring observations as per age of child, escalating concerns and abnormalities promptly to anaesthetist/surgeon as appropriate. Proficiently facilitating pharmacological management of pain, nausea etc. Safe and appropriate administration of prescribed IV narcotic and anaesthetic reversals, while monitoring for effect and reactions post administration.
• Empathetic psychological care of patients and parents, providing reassurance and clear explanation of procedures and plan of care, while advocating for patients needs..
• Attended number of seminars and day courses to further expand paediatric nursing knowledge to ensure best practice.

• Recovery room nursing- care of females post gynaelogical procedures.
• Maintained exceptional patient care levels through conscientious and compassionate monitoring of physical and psychological wellbeing.
• Administered medication, ensuring accurate dosage as per doctor's directive.

• Assisted in establishment of new pilot at that time, Acute Surgical Assessment Unit, attached to Tallaght Hospital's Emergency Dept.
• Assessment and acceptance of suitable patients via emergency department, in liaison with Surgical team on call.
• Caring for patients with wide variety of acute surgical presentations.
• Performed initial assessment of each patient including vital signs, IV cannulation and venepuncture, wound assessment and cleansing/dressing and interim procedures whilst awaiting Surgical team to review. Direct transfer to OT, after completing pre-op preparation.
• Management experience gained during this time, including overseeing all activity within unit, close liaison with Assistant Director of Nursing, Consultant in General Surgery, Ms. Amy Gillis and team and bed management.

• Majority of shifts assigned to Naas General Hospital's ED
• Applied nursing expertise to meet needs of critically ill patients in challenging and emotionally charged environment.
• Used first-hand knowledge and clinical expertise to advocate for patients under care and enacted prescribed treatment strategies.
• Clearly and thoroughly explained diagnoses, treatment options and procedures to patients and loved ones, checking in to verify understanding.
• Paediatric home care through Jack and Jill Foundation- fulfilling role caring for four year old girl with complex medical needs in own home, duties included airway management, medication management, PEG feeding. Built supportive and compassionate relationship with child and family.

• Participated in Education programme under guidance of school principal and teachers and taught various classes to students including English, Maths, Information Technology and Science, all with limited resources in an underdeveloped community.
• Developed trusted relationships with both students and staff. Immersed myself in community life and gained insight into the developing world and associated hardships.

• Shifts assigned by CPL nursing agency to University Hospital Limerick in which support and clinical care was provided to patients with both acute and chronic conditions, planning and implementing care strategies for optimum recovery.
• Diligently carried out assistance with all ADLs, medication management, supported Allied Health, created and implemented care plans, continually striving for best possible patient wellbeing.
• Completed 3 month Nurse Management post in Day Care Centre (Aged care) in Ennistymon Community Hospital.

• Maintained outstanding resident care levels through attentive, compassionate monitoring of physical and mental wellbeing.
• Continually assessed individual needs to evaluate and implement optimal care programmes in line with facility's philosophy and with regard to resident's and families best interests .
