- Each day is different and no one patient is the same.
- My duties include carrying out emergency and safety checks every shift, I then assess the patient from head to toe.
- I care for many patients who are intubated and dependent on a ventilator, patients on dialysis and patients on intra-aortic balloon pumps.
- Also caring for families and patients who are receiving palliative care.
- Being the patients advocate and giving holistic care to the patient is a very important aspect of the nurse’s role in ICU.
- I carried out audits to ensure high levels of care are maintained to ensure best patient outcomes and safety.
- It is essential to work as part of the multi-disciplinary team in ICU so that the patient the giving the highest standard of care available.
