Summary

I have applied for this position because of my love for chemistry and biology. Ever since I was a student, I have always aspired to become a science teacher. My love for chemistry became evident during my Leaving Cert years, largely influenced by my chemistry teacher, who has since become one of my key role models in my development as a teacher. Her enthusiasm for the subject ignited a similar passion in me and inspired me to follow in her footsteps. This inspiration led me to pursue a degree in Chemistry and Biology Education in college.

These subjects quickly became central to my life and aspirations. Through my studies, I discovered not only a love for science but also a passion for teaching. I realised that teaching was a way for me to contribute to society positively by helping to shape the minds of the next generation. I find immense joy in guiding students to achieve greatness, both academically and holistically, and empowering them to reach their full potential.

Ultimately, I hope to become the teacher who inspires my students in the same way that my chemistry teacher inspired me. It is her influence that shaped the educator I am today, and it is my goal to have a similar impact on the students I teach, helping them to grow and excel in all aspects of their lives.

As a teacher at O'Carolan College, I have primarily focused on delivering engaging and comprehensive Junior Cycle Science lessons to students from 1st Year to 3rd Year. Additionally, I took on a leadership role in extracurricular activities, organising and coaching the school’s Badminton Club as well as the 1st and 2nd Year Girls' Basketball Team, which successfully progressed to the group semi-finals. I also help to run the school's Choral Group, who performed for students during assemblies and festivities throughout the year. I also attended several professional development courses throughout the year, such as the OIDE Senior Cycle Redevelopment training days for Chemistry and Biology to stay updated with the latest teaching methodologies and strategies. I also successfully completed my Droichead training during the course of my time here in this school.
